Creative Way to Decorate a Blank Wall
If you’ve ever wondered how you could decorate a blank wall and inject some originality into your home design, the photograph shown above exemplifies one easy and creative way Lisa Jensen Interior Design designed a blank wall in a casual, open-space dining room.
STEP 1: Choose a Favorite Black and White Photograph or Colored Print of a Subject that Speaks to YOU!
For someone who loves the ocean like me and can’t get enough of it, I sourced a single high resolution image of ocean waves at sunset as the first step in the interior design process.
This particular image titled “Salt Life Square 2” by photographer Laura Fasulo had the right hues of blue, white, and soft glowing pink/lavender, that would work well with the interior decoration of the dining area.
I also decided to use an existing gilded mirror that had a black outline that would relate to some of the black furniture in the room, and would also serve to bounce light around the North facing dimly-lit room.
STEP 2: Measure the Wall and Calculate #Picture Frames to Create a Grid
Hint: Even Number of Photo Frames Will Work Best
The next step was measuring everything involved:
The wall
The dining buffet
The gilded mirror
I took those measurements and drafted a scaled elevation of the wall and these existing elements so I could then calculate the ideal quantity of wall frames needed, determine the accurate size for those frames, figure out the proper spacing and best layout of the frames in relation to everything else, and lastly ascertain the precise size of the print that needed to be ordered.
STEP 3: Slice the Over-Sized Photographic Print into Smaller Prints
The final steps in this design process were slicing the large print into the correct smaller and uniform pieces that would properly work with the calculated frame sizes in the elevation and design plan.
After the images were matted, framed, and installed on the wall, the result is a one-of-a-kind art installation that maximizes the wall decoration by flanking the mirror which is centered over the buffet, and creates an interesting focal point for this room design.
